Lorraine Woods
My journey as an artist began as an act of self-preservation a way to process, heal, and make sense of life’s challenges. After more than 40 years working in mental health, I found myself seeking a new language, one that could hold both the chaos and the calm I’d witnessed in others and experienced myself. Art became my safe place, a space where I could let go of words and let colour, movement, and texture speak for me.
I work primarily in abstract and fluid mediums, letting intuition guide my hand. Each painting is a meditation, inspired by the ever-changing beauty of nature and the resilience of the human spirit.
After more than forty years as a mental health social worker, I found myself drawn to a new form of expression—one that could hold the complexity, beauty, and unpredictability of life. My journey as an artist began as a way to process my own experiences, including the challenges of illness and the search for healing. Art quickly became my sanctuary: a space where words gave way to color, movement, and emotion.
I work primarily in abstract and fluid mediums, allowing paint to flow and interact in ways that mirror the ebb and flow of our inner worlds. My inspiration comes from nature’s shifting colors, the resilience I’ve witnessed in others, and the quiet moments of reflection that shape us all. Each piece is an invitation—to pause, to feel, and to find connection.
As I step into this new chapter, my hope is that my art offers comfort, inspiration, and a sense of belonging. Whether you are navigating your own journey or simply seeking a moment of beauty, I invite you to experience these visual meditations and discover what they might awaken in you.
